New Season, New Vibe: Prep Your Apartment for Spring

March 27, 2025

When we reach this time of year, many of us Minnesota and Wisconsin residents feel spring upon the horizon. While we may never know when we get a last-minute seasonal blizzard, today we’ll be diving into how you can refresh your apartment for springtime! It’s almost here, folks! Let’s get into it.

Perform a Deep Clean

The term “spring cleaning” is popular for a reason. As the new season approaches, it’s a great time to clean your home from top to bottom. This will leave you feeling revitalized! Don’t get too overwhelmed – clean one room at a time and reward yourself with a treat from your favorite local coffee shop after all your hard work!

Organize

When you start to clean your apartment, you may end up going through old boxes, bookshelves, your dresser, and more. This can be the perfect time to downsize your belongings. Make three piles:

•Keep

•Donate

•Throw Out

Not only will you feel good about donating to others, you’d be surprised at just how much you don’t need or want anymore!

Add Plants and Flowers

Few things represent springtime like fresh flowers! Whether you swing by Trader Joe’s or stop at your neighborhood farmer’s market, a colorful bouquet will liven up your home. If you have a green thumb, use this time to repot plants, bring in new ones, or switch their locations within your apartment! Just remember to not put any soil down the drains.

Change The Linens

During winter, many people opt for darker curtains or cozy flannel sheets. Once the temperatures rise, it’s ideal to switch to lighter window coverings to let in as much sunlight as possible. While you’re at it, change your sheets to a lighter fabric that has a cooling effect.

Bottom Line

Now that you have a few ideas of how to Spring-ify your apartment, it’s time to get to work! From organizing your belongings to bringing in an aromatic bouquet of fresh flowers, applying these tips and tricks can help you enjoy your apartment even more!

As a Minnesota or Wisconsin renter, you’re free from many of the responsibilities that come with homeownership - no worrying about roof repairs, lawn maintenance, or structural insurance. But while your property manager is responsible for the building itself, everything inside your apartment that belongs to you is your responsibility. Think about the things that make your home feel like home: the cozy couch you finally treated yourself to, the blanket your mom gave you, the quirky antique table that perfectly fits your style. Add in your electronics, cookware, décor, and all the meaningful pieces you’ve collected over the years. These aren’t just things - they’re part of your life. It’s a common misconception that a landlord’s insurance on a building will cover your personal belongings in the event of a fire, theft, or other disaster. But here’s a simple rule to remember: you insure what you own. The property owner covers the building; renters protect their possessions with a policy called renters insurance.
